The Financial and Trading Education Program

The Financial & Trading Education Program is a six-month program consisting of the following four phases:

     
basic training

Philadelphia
(January-February)

> Assessment and Career Guidance

  • Introduction to the financial industry
  • Structure and process of the U.S. financial markets
  • Relationship between the U.S. and global markets
  • Financial industry terminology
  • The structures, uses, risks, rewards, and trading modalities of equities, bonds, options, commodities, and futures

New York & Chicago
(March-April)

> Short-Term Internship Exposure

  • Participate in hands-on training facilitated by corporate partners
  • Attend lectures by experts within the securities industry
  • Attend training programs hosted by NYSE Euronext, Goldman Sachs, CBOE and NASDAQ OMX Group

> Academic and Testing

  • Take examinations designed to assess knowledge and preparedness for security licensing exams
  • Attend Goldman Sachs University
  • Pass FINRA Series 7, 63
  • Write research paper on current investment industry topic

(July)

> Formal Internship

  • Following completion of phases one through three, veteran students will be placed in 4-6 month internships facilitated by corporate partners
  • Veteran has the opportunity to take fulltime position with internship host or other finance-related firm

Education Training Program

The training and education program will be conducted biannually. The program will be divided in to two semesters beginning in January and July. Once selected, veterans will have the opportunity to complete six months of financial industry immersion training. Drexel Hamilton associates will mentor trainees to ensure success in the program and testing. In addition, veterans will be expected to complete rigorous assignments and weekly after action reviews.

Drexel Hamilton recognizes that disabled veterans may require unique and frequent medical attention during the program. Scheduled medical appointments and VA affairs will take precedence over program responsibilities.

Program Award and Financial Support

Veterans expenses will be covered throughout the six-month training and placement program. This includes: all travel expenses, training materials, workshop and testing fees, securities licensing examination preparation courses and cost of transportation roundtrip from home of record. Additional remuneration will come in a monthly stipend to cover personal ancillary expenses. Veterans will also be provided with a personal computer.

Eligibility

Applicants must be:

  • Disabled veteran
  • Able to commit to six months of full-time training
  • Able to pass a background check
  • Motivated to take on the rigors of the finance industry
Selection Criteria
  • All candidates will be reviewed based on the following categories:
  • Associates or Bachelors Degree in related field (preferred but not required)
  • Commitment to her or his educational and career goals
  • Essay
  • Personal recommendations
